Japan Robots (Paro the Seal and Pepper the Humanoid) Help with Elder Care

Softbank, an internet and telecoms giant in Japan has made a robot called Pepper that will help look after the elderly. It is just one of the carerobos developed and used in the country today. Japan leads when it comes to advanced robotics.

Major robotic firms in Japan are developing robots that will provide elder care as the country’s population ages. More than a quarter of its population is now over the age of 65, which is the highest ratio in any country. As a result, there is a shortage of care workers. They turn to Paro the Seal and Pepper the Humanoid to provide help with elder care.

Paro the Seal

Paro is a therapeutic seal that provides companionship to the elderly. The robot can relieve some of the symptoms linked with long-term health conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. The company that made the robot said they picked a seal because people don’t have any stereotypes about the animal. People will not question its realness.

Paro the Seal can learn and remember its name. It can also learn behavior when it is stroked repeatedly. It was first released in 2004 and is now made available in other parts of the world.

Pepper the Humanoid

The engineers from Softbank designed Pepper to be a true humanoid companion. It interacts with people and has the ability to learn one’s tastes, characteristics, and habits. It can recognize a person’s face and speech. It moves around an area autonomously. The robot responds to the mood, body movements, and the expression of the face. That’s why it is the perfect companion for the elderly.
