Power Naps Advocated for Those Over 50

You could be profoundly misguided if you think that napping during the day is only for toddlers. New research from Britain shows that taking power naps can make you happy and more productive. However, there is a catch. You should make the power naps less than 30 minutes long. There is undeniable evidence to this fact with prominent leaders in history taking power naps to stay focused and grounded in high-stress situations. The tech giant, Google, provides its employees with sleep pods in their offices that champion the cause of power naps. Let us look at why there is increased advocacy for adults above 50 to include power naps in their daily schedule.

Power Naps Improves Mental Functions

After hitting 50, humans start experiencing failing cognitive functions and this leads to stress related disorders. In a Chinese study, Dr. Junxin Li found that 3,000 Chinese adults above 50 who took power naps after lunch, or in the day, had better cognitive functions than those who do without the power nap.

It Makes You More Focused, Productive, and Happier

By the time you hit 50, very few things can still excite you and make your creative juices flow. In an online study with over 1000 participants, the researchers found that there is a correlation between happiness and the duration of a power nap. Snoozing for 30 minutes or less induces more happiness, creativity, and focus.

Lower Blood Pressure

Hypertension is a slow killer, and unfortunately, it is diagnosed when it is too late to offer any treatment. For people over 50, power naps can reduce their blood pressure. Power naps can reduce the risk of hypertension and related cardiovascular events by between 6-10%.

Best Time for Taking Power Naps

The vast majority of released studies suggest that the best time to take a power nap is in the afternoon. After lunch it is common to feel a dip in your level of alertness. To boost your happiness and productivity levels, it is necessary to take a power nap at this time. It will give you a boost of energy and still allow you to sleep comfortably at night.
